Common questions

My notes are not on my other device

On the other device, tap the cloud button above your notes, then Restore Purchase. Sync turns on by itself.

Both devices need the same Apple Account, with iCloud on. On the same screen, the text under Sync with iCloud says what is happening now.

Do I pay again on my other devices?

No. iCloud Synchronization is a one-time purchase. It is yours forever, on every iPhone and iPad with your Apple Account. If a device does not show it, tap Restore Purchase.

Why did my curly quotes or emoji change?

Everything in Just Plain Text is plain text, whether you type it or paste it:

  • Bold, fonts, colors, links and images are removed.
  • Curly quotes become straight quotes: " and '.
  • A long dash becomes two hyphens (--), and three dots in one character become three dots (...).
  • Bullets become hyphens.
  • Emoji are removed.
  • Letters and accents of every language stay as you wrote them.

How do I make a group or a sub-group?

In the list of groups, tap New Group. To put a group inside another, touch and hold the group, then tap New Sub-group. A sub-group cannot have sub-groups of its own.

How do I move a note to another group?

Touch and hold the note, then tap Move to… and choose the group.

What happens to the notes when I delete a group?

They move back to Notes. Nothing is lost.

How do I lock a group?

Touch and hold the group, then tap Lock… and choose a 4-digit PIN. The group then opens with Face ID, or with the PIN. Its sub-groups are locked with it. A lock needs a device passcode, so that a forgotten PIN can be reset.

A locked group closes when you leave the app. To close it sooner, touch and hold it, then tap Lock Now.

I forgot a group's PIN

On the locked group, tap Forgot PIN?. Confirm with your device passcode or Face ID, then choose a new PIN. Nothing in the group is lost.

A locked group does not open on my other device

The key of a locked group comes to your other devices through iCloud Keychain. Turn on iCloud Keychain in your device's settings (Settings, your name, iCloud), wait a moment, then try again.

How do I remove a lock?

Open the group, touch and hold it in the list of groups, then tap Remove Lock. Its notes are no longer encrypted.
